Rosacea

Overview

Rosacea is when your you get bumps on your skin and it may look like you are blushing. There are a few steps you can take at home to feel better.

Symptoms

Redness in your cheeks, nose, chin and forehead which could also appear on your neck, head, ears or chest. Eventually, broken blood vessels may show up through your skin. Other symptoms may include :

  • Burning of your skin
  • Swollen, bulb shaped nose
  • Dry skin patches
  • Pores increase in size
  • Bumps and broken blood vessels on your eyelids
  • Problems with seeing

These symptoms may come and go but getting treatment is a must because the redness and swelling may become permanent.

What Causes It ?

The exact cause for rosacea is unfound but a few things may cause it :

Genes. Rosacea often runs in families.

Blood vessel trouble. Problems with blood vessels in your face can cause rosacea. Sun damage can worsen rosacea making it more visible. 

Mites. They’re tiny insects could be living on your skin and cause irritation.

Treatments

There is no cure for rosacea but your doctors may prescribe you medication that can help you manage the redness, bumps, and other symptoms. 

Other treatment options for rosacea include laser treatment, dermabrasion, which sands off the top layer of the skin and electrocautery, which is an electric current that zaps damaged blood vessels.
